Relevance: Even though Paper Planes is an animated short, it demonstrates Sina's ability to work cross-genre and develop a unique design aesthetic reflective of the narrative world. With over seven years of experience on some of the world’s productions including Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse and Space Jam: A New Legacy, it also showcases Sina's ability to navigate complex VFX on a budget. Critically, Paper Planes also screened during a few important festivals including the Festival de Cannes, Reykjavik and Edmonton International Film Festivals.
His tour of duty took more than his hand, it took his soul. Now, the only way to get them back is to build them for himself... and for everyone else.
Relevance: Although it has quite a brief runtime, The Craftsman highlights Sina's ability to tell a compelling sci-fi story about war and PTSD with high-quality visual effects. Add the fact that it was shot in a single location and it clearly displays several overlapping traits with Covenants.
Ohsen designed IRIS to be free; to redistribute wealth, reorganize social structures and reform our political systems. However, when the time comes to release IRIS, Ohsen struggles to let her go.
In the midst of a devastating alien invasion, Ahmed (Kalveen Tmana) and his pregnant wife Medina (Pegah Taale) must flee the only country they've ever known.
Relevance: Shot in a single take, Refuge is far grander in scope than Guardian in terms of visual effects, locations and physical mileage (there was a lot of running). It’s like an Afghan War of the Worlds and speaks to Sina's love of genre as a vehicle for deeply personal stories. After all, it’s an allegory about Sina's parents and their flight from Afghanistan following the Russian invasion of the 1980s.
